"YSE so far has been an interesting experience, where I’ve met new people whom I’ve collaborated with. In this, I have learned new skills relating to education, which has broadend my mind. I have compared my education to those of others in need, making me grateful for my opportunities. It also gave me insight and ideas on how to improve the communities around us and far away from us, to bring a more equal education. We decided to focus on Sex-Ed for refugees, as these girls often don’t have education, let alone sex education. We realised that through this, teen pregnancy, rape, the spread of STDs and menstrual misconceptions can be abolished to raise awareness and health of refugees." - Eline (Education)
"At the beginning of October I didn’t know what YSE was, I heard some many different things about it but I never had a clear idea about this.
I was sceptic about what I could learn from YSE, I thought that it will be boring and a waste of time. But you know what, the life gives you a lot of surprises.I don’t want to talk about everyday with details, because this will be too long. Instead I prefer to keep it short and clear. YSE has been a different experience.
I think that YSE is not just a way of teaching entrepreneurship, YSE is the best way to organize your life. For myself it’s been really helpful, I realized how many things related with business or entrepreneurship can be applied not just at enterprises or projects, it can be applied in daily situations. So for me, YSE should continue for a long time. There’s always things to improve but the main idea behind YSE is the correct one." - Brandon (Science and technology)
"The YSE program is one of those things that I think every kid should get access to. I wish some of this things would have been taught to me when I was younger. Pitching was a new concept, for instance. There is nothing wrong on starting small, is something I’ve learned to. Structuring our ideas, highlighting a wide range of factors and writing it down on paper is also key for a good planning - and helps to prototype it. Not being afraid to fail, as we learn from mistakes (actually people are saying this all the time). We revise it and understand what needs improvement in order to succeed.
Is so recomforting to be given support to put our will in action. This was, in a big way, one of my expectations when applying to an UWC - get the tools to know how to create an impact. There is only one but… It is good that everybody gets to participate, but I do not completely agree that it should be mandatory, as there are people who really want to make something more out of it, and then there are also people who will not put the necessary effort to cooperate as a team." - Mariana (Building community)
"If it wasn’t for YSE our project wouldn’t have come to life this big I think. We all knew things that we wanted to resolve but didn’t make a plan to do it. So YSE gave us the drive to think of something that WE! wanted to change and then put it in action. David and Moeka really supported us along our way and helped us answering the questions we had; how should we do this? And is this possible?. YSE gave me a chance to grow knowledge on how to start something like this. In addition to this, did the presentation of Lorena Silvestri give more structure to this whole happening. I am really thankful for having YSE, although it first looked liked something weird and I wasn’t sure what the purpose was, you really start to understand that YSE can help you in multiple ways. YSE can even help with starting a study plan." - Ole-Rick (Environmental sustainability)
"I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the YSE program. Throughout these last few months, we as a school have been studying, practicing, and executing social entrepreneurship related activities and programs that have taught us how to pursue social projects that have the potential to benefit our local communities. During this time, I have been taught a vast variety of skills, ranging from how to effectively construct a team onto what a successful business plan entails.
Contrary to popular belief, I found this program to be both interesting, interactive, and useful. I definitely plan on using these newfound skills to pursue my ambitions in the future and to create meaningful organizations that can positively impact my community." - Imri (Health)
"Take it easy and start it small-these are the two most important lessons I learned from YSE. I have always been someone who would want to start it big, but YSE has made me realise that starting small is feasible and creates a bigger impact. It, also, reminded of a story of my little brother being entrepreneur at age of 8. He would collect money, buy candies, sweets, chocolates and then would sell that to us with a little money over the actual price he got for it. He did make a profit from it, and his business was the closest shop to us." - Salma (Building community)
